Matt Duhamel, director and producer of the documentary film, “What Makes Me Tic?” highlights several Utah residents who live and work with Tourette’s Syndrome.

A free, public screening of the documentary film, “What Makes Me Tic?” was held in December at the Tower Theatre in Salt Lake City. “The film is not just about Tourette’s Syndrome, it is a film about acceptance and hope”, stated Duhamel. Featured in the film is a local Utah author, motivational speaker, and Duhamel’s step-daughter, Natasha. “I wanted to create a film that was not only educational, but also gives hope to people that may feel out of place or not entirely understood in society. This is the bigger message that I wanted to express”, stated Duhamel.

After being released from prison almost two years ago, Duhamel reevaluated his life and focused on helping others through the power of film. With his family serving on the Board of Directors, Metamora Films was born creating films that “assist in expanding compassion and tolerance in order to better understand our differences and similarities.”

Metamora’s mission statement further states it is “committed to creating educational and thought provoking documentary films resulting in a more emotionally engaged society.” For more information on Metamora Films, visit: http://www.metamorafilms.org.

“The past six months have been a struggle in finding enough funds to complete and distribute the film”, Duhamel says, who used his own money for equipment and distribution costs. “I don’t want to make money from this film. I only want awareness.”

Donations to the Tourette Syndrome Association (TSA) and awareness for the 100,000 people in the U.S. living with the misunderstood disorder are the film screening’s main focus. The film screening is scheduled for December 11th at 7pm at the Tower Theatre in Salt Lake City. Duhamel plans to have guest speakers present along with free information about Tourette’s Syndrome and copies of “What Makes Me Tic?” on DVD.  Media interested in more information on the film and/or screening, please contact Matt Duhamel at 385-290-7940 or metamora_films@yahoo.com.

“What Makes Me Tic?” is an inspirational film about not giving up despite challenges we may face. It’s about hope and courage. It’s about acceptance and the power of confidence. It’s about seeing the true person instead of the labels that are often put on us by society.
