A Big Decision: One Dog? Or Two Dogs?
September 5th, 2009
A married couple is wrestling over whether or not to get another dog. Get both sides of the story and help them decide.
We have decided to let Utah Stories readers help us decide if we should get an additional dog. You can read our opinions then use the form below to vote.
Background according to Richard:
Keeks is a great dog and she had another dog staying with her all day long named Deeks. Deeks is now gone he moved out of our basement apartment. And my wife says, "Keeks is sad because she no longer has her friend." But I took Keeks to work with me yesterday and she was super happy to be around people and other dogs. Sure she might be sad because Deeks is gone, but we don't have a huge yard and we are currently overspending every month on food. And we give Keeks a lot of attention and she is a very happy dog.
In these economically uncertain times logic and reason needs to rule over emotion. A "sad dog" should not determine important decisions.
According to Golda:
It is obvious to everybody except Richard that Keeks is very sad. I know my dog and this is not her normal behavior. She needs a friend. I cannot take her to work at all. Richard took her to his work one day out of five. He cannot do that very often because he has to spend a lot of his time in meetings. Bottom line, 95% of time dog will be home alone for 8 hours a day. If we have place in our hearts and home for one dog, why not save another dog from a shelter and give him/her a better life?! There are so many homeless pets that end up euthanized in Utah every year.
As of logic and reason: if they were only things that we rely on when making decisions this world would be very cold place to live in.
Golda has found some great websites to adopt dogs that need homes you can visit them and browse the animals here. But I warn, this is a very sly tactic to use in trying to persuade your spouse to agree to a pet.
