Remembering the Cottonwood Mall

The massive plot of land which was once the first indoor shopping mall West of the Mississippi river was torn down 14 months ago to make way for a beautiful new development that would look like it appeared out of a European travel guide. But after GGP (General Growth Properties convinced the Holliday City leaders and area residents of the magnificence of their plans -- and convinced everyone to offer them wonderful tax breaks -- GGP filed for bankruptcy.

While there is no longer a main retail center for Holladay City, there are magnificent views of the Wasatch Range and plenty of open space! Brent Summerhays, Owner of Summerhays Halibut n' Chips, says he is hopeful that soon there will be a development that will bring back retail to the area, but he misses the mall, one of the few malls he felt comfortable in.
