Who's Who on Main Street: McKay Jewelers celebrates its 60th year dowtown
McKay Jewelers has been located on Main Street since 1949. Robert McKay remembers when there were 12 jewelry stores on Main Street. He is one of two surviving jewelers. The two properties on either side of McKay were vacant for years; now they are occupied by new restaurants, including Vasuvio's Organic Cafe and the Bayleaf Cafe.
Robert McKay is one of seven children of the late LDS Church Prophet David O. McKay. Robert has operated his jewelery store out of his location at 157 South Main Street with his wife for 60 years. McKay is a charming gentleman, adorning his walls are dozens of photos of happy couples over the years who have bought their wedding bands from his store.
