The LDS Church has been adamantly opposed to liquor advertising in all forms until recently. Now the Utah State liquor stores openly advertise beer, whiskey and wine specials in City Weekly.

Recently private clubs were allowed to advertise alcohol specials as long as they mention "a private club for members" in their ads--so the majority population of Utah isn't confused over to whom the ads are targeted.

In a story published today in the Deseret News about grouse repopulation, it becomes clear that a Utah biologist has inadvertently discovered a new liquor law loop-hole that is apparently sanctioned by LDS authorities.

In the same spirit as the side-car--which made it possible for Utahns to get around the one ounce shot limit per cocktail. And the private club sponsoring program--where upon arrival to a club the bouncer would inform patrons they were sponsored by Dave--which made it possible to subvert the mandatory $8 private club fee; this new loop-hole is designed to enable Utah minorities to enjoy a alcoholic beverage in public parks.

It works like this: if you wish to drink alcohol in a public bird refuge, public park or waterway, be sure to include a grouse, knot or Mohawk duck into your alcohol box packaging. If authorities make inquiries into your activities, you only need tell them you are helping restore the endangered species of the area.
