Get all the happenings for Utah's Water Week
by Jonny Glines
Salt Lake City--Water week was officially commenced at Brewvies Cinema Pub this morning. Big fans of water were in attendance including: water conservationists, under water performers, water performance artists, water photographers.
Nationally recognized water performing artist Billy X. Curmano was in there to talk about his new film project and promote the Brewvies event where he will be playing his water harp on Sunday.
Curmano swam the length of the Mississipi river, collected vials of water along the way. Then he visited death valley depriving himself with water and juice for forty days. Eventually, Curmano visited the frozen arctic, all to better understand the significance that water plays in everyday life. Mayor Becker echoed Curmano's sentiment on a local level:
We're in the process of developing the first apprehensive sustainability ordinance in the country. It covers everything from transportation to energy use and also our resource usage. It has a major focus on water. --SLC Mayor Ralph Becker
The Mayor went on to endorse water conservation through xeriscaping and growing more local food by conserving our local water supply.
